Rising and Falling

A scaffolding protrudes from the atrium of a pedestrian subway passage in Cologne. From the upper working platform, a construction worker constantly shovels coarse gravel into a rubble chute. A pile of gravel has formed at the foot of the scaffold. Passers-by in the underpass meet another worker here, who shovels the gravel into a trough that takes it up again with the inclined elevator.
