Eyetracking

On the 16th July 2015 Christian Hasucha entered the Kunstraum Düsseldorf for the first time. He wore a helmet-like device with two cameras on his head. One camera recorded his view and the other the movements of his eyes. Hasucha kept his eyes closed until he was led to a particular point in the room by the curator, who then instructed him to open his eyes.

Hasucha's mostly unconscious eye movements during the next 20 seconds were then used as the basis for an installation.

With the installation Eyetracking Christian Hasucha reacted in October 2015 to the invitation and the exhibition conditions of the Kunstraum Düsseldorf. The exhibition format 5 x 3 provides for five artist curators to each nominate three artists who were allowed to set up their exhibition contribution within three days. Besides Christian Hasucha, artist curator Oliver Gather selected Susanne Kudielka & Kaspar Wimberly and Jörg Steinmann for the October 2015 season. The work of Christian Hasucha was supported by Stefan Riebel, Oliver Gather, Ulla Lux, Marl Seck, Stefan Ettlinger, Michael Jonas and Viola Rusche.

In Berlin, he realized this project in 2020 as part of the exhibition "Geordnete Verhältnisse" at the Zentrum für Aktuelle Kunst in the Zitadelle Spandau, which also showed works by Ingeborg Lockemann/Elke Mohr, Roswitha von den Driesch/Jens-Uwe Dyffort and Francis Zeischegg. It was supported by eye-square GmbH. Special thanks to Michael Schiessl, Philipp Reiter and curator Dr. Ralf Hartmann.
