Johann Freiherr von Eichendorff memorial path

A large fallow parcel of land in Bochum, fenced in for several years and overgrown by different types of greenery, is designated as the site for the “Johann Freiherr von Eichendorff memorial path“. Seven circular memorial plaques show on one side the portrait of the poet and some quotes from his poetry such as: “cool ground”, “love nest” or “morning glade”. On the reverse side are wire loops.

The memorial plaques are thrown in high arcs over the fence into the wild botanic garden trying to hit an area corresponding to the term. Here and there the wire loop gets entangled. From that time on, the spot where it hangs is designated as a station of the Eichendorff path.

Later, when the fallow land is opened to the public attentive walkers will hang up the memorial plaques in a more suitable fashion. In this way the path will develop organically.

The Johann Freiherr von Eichendorff memorial path is part of a project by the “Situative Brachland-Museum”, which was founded in 2011 by Matthias Schamp and Steffen Schlichter in Bochum. Documentation of the memorial path was made with the support of Henning Brod and Claudia Heinrich.
